Project Antarctica - Total Solar Eclipse - December 2021
This expedition will use a charter vessel dedicated specifically for the eclipse observation. The captain of the MV Ushuaia is one of the most experienced masters sailing in this region.
Originally built for the United States agency NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) and refurbished to provide 46 comfortable cabins and suites, the ice-strengthened polar vessel Ushuaia is very well appointed and provides ample deck space.
As a small purpose built expedition ship, Ushuaia is able to safely access remote places not possible with larger vessels and you can expect a far more personalized experience with the Ushuaia team.
An extensive lecture program will be offered during the days at sea. Expert naturalists share their knowledge of the wildlife and unique ecosystems we will encounter throughout our voyage. South Georgia is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and inspiring places on earth with more wildlife than virtually anywhere else on the planet.

We plan to observe the eclipse from near the South Orkney Islands if the weather conditions look promising or alternatively our charter vessel will seek to move to the most promising position for observation from the sea. This is a challenging venture with unpredictable weather, ice and sea conditions to battle, but it is one of the world's last great adventures and we can promise a unique experience!
