Day 9 - Eclipse Day
A short coach trip from our hotel to the eclipse centre line which is close to the longest duration point of the eclipse.
Day 8 - Fly to Torreon, our base for the eclipse
Fly across Mexico’s wide central desert plain region for two nights in Torreon. Torreon lies along the Nazas River and is a city of contrasts in the middle of semi-desert. A relatively new city by Mexican standards, it lies at the heart of much of Mexico's industrial development.
Day 6 - Today travel by coach to Guadalajara, via Guanajuato
A journey by coach today through beautiful landscape via Guanajuato to Guadalajara for a two night stay. Guanajuato is an enchanting town, known for its silver mining history and colonial architecture. Its network of narrow streets, alleyways and tunnels is typified by the Callejón del Beso (Alley of the Kisses), so named because the balconies are close enough for a couple to reach across and kiss! Guadalajara is the second largest metropolis in Mexico. It is a city of parks and fountains, ofmonuments and rose-lined boulevards, a city alive with colour. Its rich colonial heritage dates back to 1542 and is evident throughout.
Days 4 and 5 - Travel overland to beautiful San Miguel de Allende
Travel by coach to stunning San Miguel de Allende for two nights accommodation. The city is so strikingly lovely in its architecture that it has been designated a national monument with its beautifully restored colonial mansion houses and delightful patio restaurants. Optional excursions will include a wonderful 'Chocolate and Cobblestones' walking tour of the city where you discover the fascinating history and uses of chocolate to the Aztec society.
Days 2 and 3 - Enjoy vibrant Mexico City with optional excursions available
Enjoy accommodation in the financial and cultural district, steps away from the most important streets, Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Juarez. Optional visits will include Xochimilco floating gardens, Frida Kahlo's neighbourhood Coyoacan, Guadalupe Shrine and the pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan.
Day 1 (31 March 2024) - Arrival in Mexico City
Arrive in vibrant Mexico City and transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. When they arrived here Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes and his men were awestruck by the sight of the imposing temples of the Aztecs. Surrounded by some of the finest buildings of the colonial era, lay the remnants of one of the Aztecs’ principal monuments, the Templo Mayor. Its mysterious shapes stand as a haunting tribute to the pre-Hispanic civilization that flourished here long ago.
