Project Antarctica 2021Total Solar Eclipse Itineraries

This project will use vessels dedicated specifically for the eclipse observation.  Both MV Hondius and her sister ship, the brand new MV Janssonius meets the latest and highest Lloyd’s Register standards for ice-strengthened cruise ships.

We plan to observe the eclipse in the centre of the shadow of the moon, and if possible, some distance into the Scotia Sea drift ice.  The ice edge will be about 60 degrees S, 41 degrees W. This is a challenging venture with unpredictable weather, ice and sea conditions to battle, but it is one of the world's last great adventures and we can promise a unique experience!

Observing a total solar eclipse is of course the rare event that is central to this project, but there is much more to see. This is of course not an everyday adventure...
