Annular Solar Eclipse - February 2027

The path of the annular solar eclipse which will occur on 6th Feb 2027 will be visible across a large part of the Pacific Ocean and the South Atlantic Ocean. The best prospects however for observing this event will be where the track crosses the southern part of South America, and our group will be observing 200km East of the scenic town of Esquel, nestled in the Andean foothills of northwest Chubut.
An annular eclipse, sometimes called a 'ring of fire' eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and Sun but does not completely cover the Sun. On this eclipse a circle of around 15% of the sun remains as a very bright 'annulus' or ring around the Sun.
Weather prospects are always the first consideration when arranging a location for observing an eclipse along with the practical logistics of travel and accommodation. The opportunities presented by visiting what are often remote rarely visited regions should also feature in the planning and this expedition ticks all the boxes!
