Total Solar Eclipse - November 2030
In the early hours of the 25th November 2030 the shadow of the moon will touch down over the South Atlantic Ocean then sweep inland across the notorious 'skeleton coast', a barren misty fringe of Namibia’s Kalahari Desert.
Windhoek, the Namibian capital will experience a total eclipse of almost two minutes before the shadow crosses the famed Botswana game parks. A large part of South Africa is host to this eclipse, with the area north of Durban well favoured with a duration of over two and a half minutes.
The Astro Trails African itineraries will feature tours of Namibia including an observation site near the exotic city of Windhoek, with another proposed observation site in the remote animal rich Mabuasehube Game Reserve in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Botswana.
Extensions to the programme will likely include the Etosha National Park and Okavango Delta game areas, Sossusvlei dunes, a trip to view Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and a visit to Cape Town in South Africa.
The landless stretch of the Southern Indian Ocean offers little prospect of observing the event until it makes landfall at Sceale Bay on the 'Great Australian Bight'. The sun is low as the eclipse reaches this point, giving an enhanced sunset eclipse over the bay
The Australian observation site will be near Port Augusta north of Adelaide and options will include the tourism highlights of the country.
