USA Coast to Coast by train (TOUR CANCELLED)

Day 1 (12 April 2024) - Today take the train to Washington

On the train to Washington this morning, arriving early afternoon and staying in a hotel convenient for all the sites in the US Capital.
 

Day 2 - Day at leisure in Washington DC

Enjoy a day at leisure in the US Capital. National symbols such as the Capitol and the White House are accessible to visitors, along with dozens of other tourist attractions, which include world-class museums and important monuments. Many of the most important things to see and do are in the north western quadrant along the National Mall and are best seen on foot.
 

Day 3 - Later today join the Capitol Limited Amtrak overnight train to Chicago

At leisure in Washington this morning. Join the Capitol Limited train this afternoon to travel overnight to Chicago. The tour price includes a reclining coach class seat, but you will be able to upgrade to one of the bedroom options closer to the tour departure date.
 

Day 4 - Morning arrival into Chicago for an overnight stay

Arrive in Chicago this morning and transfer to your city centre hotel. A half day city tour is a good way to get orientated in this vibrant 'Windy City' located on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan. Chicago is well known for house music and electronic dance music, blues, jazz, comedy, shopping, dining, sports, architecture, highly regarded colleges and universities, and premier cultural attractions.
 

Day 5 - This afternoon join the California Zephyr Amtrak overnight train to Denver

Return to Chicago's Union Station early this afternoon to join the California Zephyr Train for an overnight run to Denver. Again, the tour price includes a reclining coach class seat, but you will be able to upgrade to one of the bedroom options closer to the tour departure date.
 

Day 6 - Early morning arrival into Denver for an overnight stay

Arrive in Denver early morning and transfer to your city centre hotel. Denver, located at the junction of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek, has the largest city park system in the nation, with 14,000 acres of mountain parks and 2,500 acres of natural areas. Perhaps visit the zoo or botanic gardens or enjoy a trip out to the Red Rocks Parks and Amphitheatre.
 

Day 7 - Re-join the California Zephyr Amtrak overnight train to San Francisco

Re-join the California Zephyr this morning and continue your journey through the Rocky Mountains, one of the world's most spectacular rail trips. Again, the tour price includes a reclining coach class seat, but you will be able to upgrade to one of the bedroom options closer to the tour departure date.
 

Day 8 - Late afternoon into Oakland and transfer to San Francisco for an overnight stay

Arrive into Oakland late afternoon and transfer by coach to your hotel located in the Fisherman's Wharf area of the city. San Francisco is known for its steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, Fisherman's Wharf, and its Chinatown district. Enjoy the next two nights in this vibrant city.
 

Day 9 - Day at leisure in San Francisco with optional excursions available

At leisure in San Francisco. San Francisco is very easy to travel around but optional excursions will be available. Perhaps take a boat trip across the Bay or to Alcatraz or ride the cable cars over to Union Square or join a half day city tour and see it all!
 

Day 10 (21 April 2024) - Join your homeward flight and depart San Francisco

Today is the last day of the post tour extension. Join your return flight home.

• The price is for the extension tour from arrival on Day 1 to your departure on Day 10

• This tour extension starts in New York on 12th April 2024 and ends in San Francisco on 21st April 2024.

• Bed and breakfast accommodation is provided in hotels throughout the tour and all transfers, transportation and local excursions as outlined in the itinerary (if applicable) are included. Other meals are not included, and some excursions are offered on an optional basis closer to the tour departure date (the word 'optional' is used to describe these). *Please note that the Amtrak journeys are costed in Coach Seat class, but upgrades will be available to sleeper accommodation approx. 1 year prior to departure.

• A limited number of rooms for sole occupancy are available at a single room supplement of GB£1,075 / US$1,350.

• International flights to connect to this tour can be requested by you when fares and schedules are available, or you can arrange your own International flights if you prefer.

• Current return air fares from London (into Toronto and return from San Francisco) are between about GB£550 and GB£950 and from the US about US$500 to US$850 (depending on the departure point within the US).

• Arrival and Departure airport transfers and assistance will be offered at additional cost approximately 9 months prior to tour departures.
