Day 1 - Arrival in Luxor

Arrive in Luxor, your base for the duration of the tour. Luxor, on the site of ancient Thebes, is on the East bank of the Nile and was the pharaoh's capital at the height of their power. It is described as the world's greatest open-air museum, but that comes nowhere near describing this extraordinary place. Nothing in the world compares to the scale and grandeur of the monuments that have survived in this ancient city.

Day 2 - West Bank sightseeing (Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon)

Visit the West Bank of Luxor, stopping en route to see the towering Colossi of Memnon. Explore the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El Bahari with your Egyptian guide. The Valley of the Kings contains the rock-cut tombs of 62 of ancient Egypt’s rulers and houses the famous tomb of Tutankhamun amongst others. There will be a chance to take an optional sunset felucca ride along the Nile later this afternoon.

Day 3 - East Bank sightseeing (Karnak and Luxor Temples)

Today visit Luxor and Karnak Temples on the East Bank of the Nile at Luxor. Luxor Temple is largely the work of Amenhotep III

and Ramsses II the Great (whose colossi and obelisk stand at the entrance) and is also home to the small 'hanging' Mosque of Abu al-Haggag. The vast Karnak Temple Complex comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings. Its construction began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic period, although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. There will be a chance to visit Karnak again this evening for the optional Sound and Light show.

Day 4 - Day at leisure in Luxor with optional excursions available

A day at leisure in Luxor to enjoy the sights and sounds of this fascinating city. Or perhaps join an optional excursion and see some further antiquities outside the city. In Arabic Luxor means 'The Palaces' and during ancient times it was known as 'The City of Hundred Doors'. Idyllically located on the banks of the Nile, Luxor is truly unique with one of a kind archaeological attraction located all over the city, earning it the title of World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.

Day 5 - Join your onward flight to join your main tour
