Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens

Our exclusive observation site for the total solar eclipse in Sydney will be on the lawns of the Fleet Steps, which form part of Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens.  The site looks directly across to the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House and you will see the eclipsed Sun above Sydney Harbour Bridge (see composite by Nicholas Eggleston below).

The magnificent Royal Botanic Gardens cover 74 acres of harbour-front land and feature fifteen themed gardens containing over 27,000 plant species.  The gardens are an ideal space to relax and explore before joining us at our exclusive eclipse observation site at Fleet Steps.

The Astro Trails Fleet Steps observation site has wide open lawns facing the direction of the Sun, and we are restricting numbers at the site to ensure that there is a good amount of space for everyone to enjoy the spectacle in comfort.   The site will host an astronomy hub with information and advice on the eclipse and there will be live music to add to the ambiance.  We plan to have food and beverage available onsite to purchase.

This is a good, long eclipse which can be observed from wonderful surroundings in great comfort.  An unusual treat for regular eclipse chasers who usually find themselves in far more rugged places to be sure of seeing the spectacle!  Every solar eclipse is a breathtaking experience and combining the ambiance of lush tropical gardens with the long eclipse duration will make this a unique experience.
