Known for its rich cultural life, Buenos Aires is home to world-class museums, grand theatres, historic monuments, and a thriving arts scene. The city’s eclectic architecture, ranging from neoclassical façades to ornate Art Nouveau and bold Art Deco structures, reflects its deep European heritage.

Perhaps explore a local art gallery or museum, browse the antique markets, or indulge your senses with the vibrant flavours and aromas at the food stalls of Mercado de San Telmo. Maybe head to La Boca, the birthplace of tango and the legendary footballer Diego Maradona, which was once a bustling shipyard. In La Boca you can stroll along the iconic Caminito, where colourful houses line the street, tango dancers perform with passion, and local artists proudly display their work.
Day 3 (4th February 2027) – Fly to Esquel with an afternoon optional excursion available (B)
Today fly to the city of Esquel, an Argentinean town in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Esquel is known for being the southernmost stop on La Trochita (the Old Patagonian Express), a narrow-gauge steam train that once ran for more than 400km through Patagonia. West of Esquel lies Los Alerces National Park, which is home to forests, lakes, waterfalls and rare pudu deer. Also nearby is La Hoya Mountain, a habitat for the camel-like guanaco with views across the valley. Esquel also holds a strong historical and cultural connection to the Welsh settlers of Y Wladfa.
Day 4 (5th February 2027) – Day at leisure in Esquel with optional excursions (B)
A day at leisure in Esquel, taking in the breathtaking scenery. Maybe wander the streets of this vibrant city and explore Patagonia’s rich history with a visit to the Museo de Leleque. Various optional excursions will be offered today which will hopefully include La Tronchita (the Old Patagonian Express) if the timetable is operating.
Day 5 (6th February 2027) – Eclipse Day – Overnight in Esquel (B L)
Today is eclipse observation day. We will observe the eclipse from farmland around Gualjaina which lies approximately 200km east of Esquel along the Rio Chebut and is the closest small town to The Piedra Parada rock formations. A picnic with drinks will be provided during this special event.
Day 6 (7th February 2027) – Travel by coach to Bariloche with an afternoon optional excursion available (B)
Today, we journey by coach to San Carlos de Bariloche (commonly called Bariloche), a town in Argentina’s Patagonia region. Bariloche borders Nahuel Huapi, a large glacial lake surrounded by the Andes Mountains, and is known for its Swiss alpine-style architecture and its tasty chocolate, sold in shops lining the main street, Calle Mitre. It is also a popular base for hiking and skiing in the nearby mountains and exploring the surrounding beauty of the Lake District. This afternoon we plan to offer an optional excursion by cable-car up Mount Campanario and the areas surrounding Bariloche.
